palo santo // how to use it and tips

palo santo, or "holy wood", gives off a scent with notes of lemon, mint and pine as it burns. this grounding scent is believed to have many beneficial qualities.

centuries ago, shamans and healers used it to cleanse the air and clear negative energy. it is also traditionally believed to ease cold symptoms and help with emotional heaviness, and it is an essential part of many meditation and yoga practices.

interestingly, these qualities are said to appear only when the palo santo tree dies naturally and is left to rest for five years. this gives the wood's oils enough time to mature properly before it is cut into sticks for personal use.
